The Great Africa
02:57
|
|||
The Great Africa was created for us all
The African mind loves the short and the tall
But I wonder why some of my people
Out of greed and selfishness have a stern zeal to cripple
The vulnerable souls they were mandated to protect
Eagle-eyed experts in conspiring
They easily detect those with whose views they differ
I shall defend my own Africa and rights
If need be with peaceful fights
We shall scale heights
And set far our sights
We struggle armed with literature
To be a new creature
We need to stand tall
Never accept downfall
Oh Oh Africa

Living Death
02:31
|
|||
Oh parents what have you done?
Living us in dillema
Like a dead goat
Waiting to be roasted
Like a dead goat
Waiting to be eaten
Like a dead goat
Waiting to be roasted
You were not responsible
Your children were not educated
Our talents were blocked
How can we develop ourselves
While working in other people's fields
How can we get out of this mud, mother and father?
What you did shows no love, mother and father
You gave away our value
Commending us to a Living Death
Because of your irresponsible

My Life
02:39
|
|||
My Life is scattered
My mother died when I was 2 years old
My father married another woman
My stepmum had four children with my father
She was responsible for her own children
But irresponsible towards me
When my father got very ill
I had to take care of him
I had to go from door to door asking for food
I had to leave school when I was doing grade 7
Every day I was thoroughly beaten
After which I had to search water,
Wash the dishes, feed my stepbrothers and sisters
While I had to go without food
Eventually my stepmother went to town
Leaving my father dying
When I look at my parents' graves
I see mine next to them
I am suffering
I'm living in Hell

Street Kid | Show Love
02:44
|
|||
I'm lost in the streets
My life gone in the bush
When I was born my parents had a small farm
And I enjoyed a warm atmosphere
But now they're all gone
They all died
And I'm so lonely
Like a Bird without a Song
I'm living in the streets
And no one to take care of me
But there are people around us
They say we are like animals
They say we are bad people
Because they don't undertsand why we are in the streets
Some say we are thieves
But in our hearts we feel the pain
We cry all day and night long
So have a heart people
We are the people like you
Things change in life
Be kind and feel the pain
What if it was you?
We cry and pray and one day
God will answer our prayers
We love you people
(We love you)

The World
03:18
|
|||
The World is clouded in darkness
With tainted colours of death
Wearing its ugliest mask
For responsibility seems a task
This world is proud of shame
That will remain the same
Until responsibility makes it tame
The World with cruel stories to tell
Is irresponsibility a shaft of war
Thrust deeper to the core
Taunting force on the poor
Violence prevails over human reason
This is the time for responsibility to unfold
Truth and love stand bold
With no justice sold
A responsibile world we mould
Where all will never be cold

I Have a Dream
02:21
|
|||
I have a dream today
That the innocent child will be bank manager
Do not keep quiet
Do not keep silent
Break the silences
(Break the silences)
I was born dirty
Picked up by a stroller
It is not my desire to eat food from the bin
It is not my desire to sleep on the pavements or the verander
Why you abuse me?
But you are my parents
The dustbin is my kitchen unit
I have my rights as an African Child
Everyone is not saying I'm wild
I'm the African Child

Ways of Life
03:37
|
|||
The Ways of Life can be bitter
They cause agony in the soul
The woman held her head in both her hands
And stared at the heavens in pain
She flung herself to the hard ground
And let out a wail
It stopped the early morning singing birds
The Earth went silent
It was a terrible wail indeed
Her husband had bolted
With all the years of hard work of cotton
How would she make end's meet
Four hungry children to feed
She had prayed he would come back with something
Indeed he did
He had a stupid grin on his face
And another wife
He had married her with the cotton money
The wails sent shivers Down people's spines
The wind picked up her wails
The wails of a wronged woman
Such are the ways of life
Full of poison

We can hear you calling in the air tonight, Genius
We've been waiting for this moment for all our lives, Genius
Can you hear us calling in the air tonight, Genius?
Well you told us you've been drowning
We want to lend a hand
We've seen your words
Seen your thoughts
But you don't know who we are.
We met your friend and we saw what you'd done
We want to thank you for what you shared
So try to contact us
Lucy knows where we are
But we don't know where you are
We can hear you calling in the air tonight, Genius
We've been waiting for this moment for all our lives, Genius
Can you hear us calling in the air tonight, Genius?
We've been waiting for this moment for all our lives, Genius
She remembers, she remembers, don't worry
How could she ever forget
The first time we met, Lucy showed us your poetry
Oh we know the reason why you state your story
Your story was felt not just by us
The hurt in this world shows
Responsibility will grow
Your voice will be heard
We can hear you calling in the air tonight, Genius
We've been waiting for this moment for all our lives, Genius
Can you hear us calling in the air tonight, Genius?
We've been waiting for this moment for all our lives, Genius

We Drew Genius Gweru, Zimbabwe
These words are written by Genius, a young African man, when he was a young orphan living on the streets of
Zimbabwe.
Through a chain reaction, an Englishman living in Argentina, without having met Genius, composed music for the words and recorded them across the planet with Alex James. We have created this page to try to support Genius in whatever way we can. He is now in school loving Sciences!!
